We are very happy to invite you for the digital opening of our gum Arabic factories in Sudan. Started in 2014 it took 7 years to complete. This is a milestone in our journey, and we are more then proud to share this moment with you.
As social enterprise we started the FOGA product chain to have direct impact on the environment and on the lives of small farmers in Sudan. We build nurseries and plant new trees to enable reforestation.
We pay the farmers a fair price from which they can feed their families. We make the chain transparent, so it is clear for everyone from which farmer the gum comes and what happens on the way to the manufacturer and consumer.
Since ages gum Arabic is traded from Africa. It is used in many applications. From beverages to paintings and health benefits. Sometimes it is called the ‘golden tear of Africa’. It costs many people their lives and other people get huge benefits. Over 5 million farmers depend on the income from acacia trees, but most of them do not get enough to feed their families.
FOGA started to change the situation. We buy for a fair price and with our projects we impact the environmental, social, and economical sides of the local communities. Only in this way the golden tears can be changed into tears of happiness for all.
Our gum factories keep value close to the communities. Instead of exporting raw materials, the products are now processed within the country. This raises quality, jobs and capacities within Sudan. Our cleaning factory is close to the farmers. As soon the gum comes from the field it will be cleaned and transported. This keeps a high quality of the product and enables farmers to sell for a good price instead of selling for very low prices to village traders.
In our factory in Khartoum the gum Arabic is processed to Spray Dry Powder and Instant Powder. The Spray Dry Powder can be used immediately in manufacturing processes. The Instant Powder can directly be used for consumption and dissolves immediately in water.
The factories give jobs for permanent and seasonal staff for over 200 workers with over 75% women. From the benefits we carry out in several projects in the local communities.
